Re: Akihabara (Akiba)
Hi just a share
Since Cebu pacific offers cheaper flights to Osaka. Or you might end up in kansai area and it's still expensive to go to tokyo even if you're coming from that area TAT..
Although Akihabara is widely known there is also a place called "denden town" or denden street which is kinda like akihabara (it also has a hentai building 1f hetero 2f yaoi 3f yuri. ) Though no gundam cafe, akb cafe etc. there are still maid cafes most of all bilihan ng murang action figures! I was mostly interested in anime but there are also game stores and electronic stores there. Denden town is situated in osaka.
If you see this big gunpla billboard you're there

Re: Akihabara (Akiba)
Most buildings in Akiba are around 5 to 7 floors. Each floor have different goods such as videogames on one floor, doujins on the next then figurines on the third etc. Most building won't have escalators so get ready to use the stairs or the slow elevator. Mandarake sells the 2nd hand goods. You can find rare items and you can find cheap ones. Second hand goods in Japan are kept in really good condition and they'll say if there are any damages to the item (in japanese though). Funniest I've seen are 2nd hand porn doujins. I didn't even want to touch those. Japan is also very open when regards to pornography. You can actually read some of them before you buy which I did since you can never to such things in the Philippines.
I would also like to add the building Akiba Culture Zone. Other than the regular otaku goods you can find concert goods and original anime posters like the ones they use to promote movies and dvds. In the highest floor, you can dine in the Good Smile Cafe. Its an anime themed cafe where they'll feature 2 anime at a time. You choose one when you go in and the food and the design of the cafe will be the anime you chose. Example is the Hitagi crab curry and the Kirito black rice omelette that I ate. If you also like the placemat and coaster they provide you with the meal, you can buy it and bring it home.

Well the Philippines is not fully "anime friendly" after all...
