Jolla – A new beginning Jolla10

Jolla is a new phone from a team of people who used to work at Nokia – they were the guys to produce the gorgeous Nokia N9, which then paved the way in device design for nearly all the Windows Phone devices that Nokia makes.

Jolla is both the company’s name and the name of their new phone. The Jolla runs on Sailfish OS which they state is ‘a truly open and distinct mobile operating system”. The great thing about Jolla though is that it can also run Android apps.

The device costs €399 (around £330) and for that you get a 9.9m thick device, dual-core 1.4ghz processor, 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, a 4.5-inch 960×540 display and a 8-megapixel camera on the back. It’s not a device that will make any waves, especially considering the price of the Nexus 5 and how much you get for your money there.

Jolla’s main selling point is the OS itself which they’re proud to show off. It is a very gesture based OS which can be great, but it can also be bad. From the video, it seems that there are too many gestures, so learning them all would be quite tough. You might also end up carrying out a gesture unintentionally which produced an unwanted outcome. Nonetheless, it does look gorgeous and seems to be a mix of Windows Phone, Android and iOS.
